Steep Hill up for UK’s best street title

Best street: The charming Steep Hill in Lincoln is in the running for the title of Britain’s greatest street.

Lincoln’s Steep Hill has one in three chances to be named Britain’s best street in The Academy of Urbanism’s 2012 awards.

Steep Hill has been shortlisted by the academy as one of the top three streets in the UK, alongside Byres Road in Glasgow and Cockburn Street in Edinburgh.

From July to September, a group of judges from the academy will visit Steep Hill and the other nominated streets and write an assessment report.

The report will then be available to academics to cast their final vote. The winners will be announced on November 11.

The Academy of Urbanism is also looking for the European city of the year, where Gothenburg, Sweden, Lisbon, Portugal and Oslo, Norway are up for the title.
