National tug-off comes to Lincoln

Rope war: Lincolnites are invited to play Tug of War in uphill Lincoln later in the month.

Fancy testing your pulling power? The English National Tug of War Championships 2011 will be visiting Lincoln this month.

The championships, which consist of several male, female and youth categories, will take place at Sobraon Barracks, Burton Road, on June 18 from 10.00am to 6.00pm.

As well as the Tug of War competition, there will be a Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force Open Day with various stands and activities like a climbing tower, ranges and First Aid sessions.

Event organiser Major (Retired) Rob Holland said: “To host the English National Tug of War Championships in Lincoln is a great honour and we are delighted to host it at the Sobraon Barracks.

“I hope people throughout the city will come and visit the event and will give their support to Lincoln Tug of War Club and Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force who will be competing on the day and also see what’s going on throughout the day with the Cadet Force Open Day.”

Facilities Manager at Lincolnshire Active Community Network Dave Carter said: “It’s great to see that Lincoln is hosting this National tournament and that facilities such as the Barracks are being utilised for such a large event.”

Entry is free, but donations towards Help For Heroes are encouraged. Parking will cost £2.00, but walking is recommended as parking space is limited.
