Free event offers insight into mental illness

Mental Health: Films regarding mental illnesses will help overcome the stigma attached to them at a free NHS event.

A free film night to raise awareness for mental health is taking place at the Lincoln Drill Hall on November 8.

Members of the public are encouraged to drop in to the Shine a Light on Mental Health event between 6:00pm and 10:30pm to watch Hollywood movie Shine alongside several short documentaries that explore the different sides to mental illness.

Short documentaries will be sharing the experiences of people who have suffered a mental illness as well as those who have been carers both sharing the reality and impact of the illnesses.

The films are being shown to highlight key points for discussion and after each film a panel, made up of people with experience of mental illness, carers and mental health workers, will be answering any questions.

Organised by students and staff at the Lincoln School of Nursing, the aim is to help overcome the stigma attached to mental illness and there will be stands by local charities and organisations attending to offer advice, information and guidance throughout the night.
