Lincoln Christmas Market traffic restrictions announced

Restrictions: Motorists wanting to travel through uphill Lincoln should be wary of various limitations during the Christmas Market.

Certain roads in the uphill area of Lincoln will be subject to traffic restriction next week due to the annual Lincoln Christmas Market.

While some streets will be closed completely, some roads may be subject to parking restrictions or part of a one-way system from December 1 at 2pm through to midnight December 4.

Residents in streets which are completely closed will have already received their Residents’ Access pass.

As well as roads, six car parks uphill between November 30 and December 5 will also be closed for stalls and entertainment.

However, Langworthgate car park will remain open, and hotels such as the White Hart and Lincoln Hotel will offer their parking amenities to shoppers.

A Park and Ride scheme will be put in place for visitors at both the Lincolnshire Showground and Museum of Lincolnshire Life, which will reduce cars and parking in the area.

In 2009, over 10,000 cars made use of the service.

As well as traffic restrictions, there will also be a new speed limit enforced in attempt to reduce congestion and maintain traffic flow.

Economic Programme Manager at the City of Lincoln Council Kate Ellis said: “We appreciate residents cooperating with us during the Lincoln Christmas Market, as we do recognise that it has a big impact on the uphill area of Lincoln.

“We hope that local people will not be disrupted too much as a result of the traffic restrictions for the Market, and have schemes in place – such as encouraging people to use the park and ride – to reduce the impact.

“Our aim is to make the Lincoln Christmas Market an enjoyable experience for residents and visitors alike – this includes having a system in place which will help to manage traffic in the city over the weekend.”
