New £15m mental health unit opens in January

Handover: The £15m Discovery House mental health centre off Long Leys Road is set to open in January 2012.

Kevin Minors from Costain presents Trust chairman, Eileen Ziemer with ‘the key’ to Discovery House

The new mental rehabilitation centre off Long Leys Road, known as Discovery House, is set to open in January 2012.

The Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust received the keys to the £15 million building, with a formal opening set for spring next year.

Costain Contractors formally handed the building over following a year’s building work, which has seen almost 100 workers on-site at the peak of construction.

Built on the former St George’s hospital site, Discovery House will house 45 single occupancy rooms, therapy and treatment rooms, a cafe and a gymnasium.

Trust chairman, Eileen Ziemer, who received the keys said: “We are absolutely thrilled with our fantastic new building.

“We’ve worked with service user representatives and staff to make sure it provides the best possible therapeutic environment for the people in our care.”
