The University of Lincoln secured £85,000 of Olympic legacy funding to build new changing room facilities at the Sobraon Cricket Ground off Burton Road.

The project is one of 350 local community sports groups who have been offered a total of £17.4 million in Olympic legacy funding through the Inspired Facilities Fund.

Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark – celebrating the link to the games.

Robin Wright, Director of Sport at the University of Lincoln said: “It will be wonderful to see cricket once again played in this iconic setting.”

“This cricket development will enhance our student experience and increase participation across the community.”

The City Council approved development of the site in November 2010.

Local MP Karl McCartney (pictured centre) said: “The Sobraon Cricket Ground development will greatly benefit our students who I hope will become leaders in their respective sports’ disciplines, or indeed Olympic athletes of the future.”
