Two injured as Lincoln to Retford train derails

Derailed: A Northern Rail train to Retford came off the tracks due to a landslide and passengers were injured.

Two people have been injured after a Lincoln train derailed between Reford and Gainsborough Lea Road station.

The 11.25 to Retford, which makes stops at Gainsborough and Sheffield, left the tracks at around midday due to debris on the tracks.

The debris was from a landslide by Clarborough Tunnel. Emergency services are on site and dealing with the incident.

The driver and one passenger were slightly injured and taken to hospital. The other 17 passengers on the train are unhurt and were taken home by taxi.

Due to the incident, anyone hoping to use later trains on this route will instead be put on buses.

It’s believed this will extend journey times by around 30 minutes, and will continue until further notice.
