Storytelling singer brings tales to book festival

Stories in songs: A local singer-songwriter will be showcasing his talents at a reading festival next month.

Next month, an award-worthy young musician will perform at an acclaimed live radio show, as BBC 6 Music favourite Michael Reeve takes part in The Reading Room Live at Lincoln’s LPAC.

As part of Lincoln Book Festival 2012, Siren FM is broadcasting their monthly show from the LPAC on Saturday, May 12. Listeners can enjoy a variety of local and regional poetry, literature and creative writing. Bringing an appropriately serene musical angle to events is Michael Reeve.

Describing his music as “evocative of the picturesque, serene hills of the Lincolnshire countryside”, Michael has not only great melodies but an empathetic, story-telling lyrical style that makes him a great choice for the event.

Michael is more than ready for the chance to expand his audience. He said: “The venue looks great, and playing something different like this is going to be a great chance to reach a wider audience that might not have otherwise heard my music.”

The performance marks something of a return to live music for the Horncastle resident, who has spent much of the year so far focussing on his studio work, with an EP already online and a free download single imminent.

The EP, Between Two Lives, feature five tracks, all describing a different tale from Reeve’s travels and experiences over recent years.

“This last year has really been about writing and recording the new EP and getting everything out, so I suppose now is really the time I can focus on more live stuff and hopefully get out and around Lincoln some more.”

Reeve recently found himself put on the musical map due to being championed by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson, making it into his Top 10 weekly picks three times.

He added: “It’s been great to have the support of 6 Music. It means a lot that it’s voted for by both the 6 Music team and the public, and it’s definitely given my play count a boost!”
