Lincolnshire sports venues awarded £340k

Better facilities: The county has been given funding to improve sporting facilities for local athletes.

Lincolnshire sports venues have received a total of £340,000 to help improve the county’s sporting facilites.

Five venues across Lincolnshire were awarded the money from the Inspired Facilites Fund, to help increase the level of participation in sports during the run-up to London 2012.

Wyberton Playing Fields Association, in Boston, was awarded £50,000 and will be used to replace their current sporting facilites with a new, modern complex.

Other projects that have also received funding include Glen Park Partnership in Surfleet (£50,000), Welland Yacht Club in Spalding (£50,000), Bassingham Parish Council (£40,000) and North Kesteven District Council (£150,000).

Improved sporting facilities will Lincoln’s athletes, giving them a number of options of where to train, with appropriate facilities.

Janet Inman, Chief Executive Officer at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said: “We are delighted that five venues in Lincolnshire have received funding to improve their sports facilities and enable more people across the county to take part in sport.”

“Lincolnshire Sports Partnership encourage more people to be more active, more often, and the Inspired Facilites fund is helping us to achieve this goal.”

Earlier this year, 11 sports venues across Lincolnshire received £624,000 in extra funding.

The Inspired Facilites Fund project aims to invest £50 million of National Lottery funding into 1,000 community sports projects across the UK over the next two years.
