Lincoln’s Calendar Girls out-strip ticket sales

Sold out: Local production of Calendar Girls featuring nudity has sold out three weeks before the opening.

A production of Calendar Girls featuring local performers coming to Lincoln Drill Hall in October sold out last week.

Local performers will strip off in Calendar Girls, which comes to Lincoln between October 18-20. They will tell the story of Women’s Institute members who pose nude in a calendar to raise money for their local hospital.

Before they know it, the women hit headlines at home and abroad, and friendships are put to the test as they take their turns on talk shows and magazine photo-shoots.

The story became the fastest selling UK theatre tour ever and was performed in London’s West End, as well as being made into a 2003 movie starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters.

Calendar Girls will be brought to Lincoln Drill Hall by local theatre company DTC Productions Ltd.

DTC Productions Managing Director Jamie Marcus said; “It is incredible that in this time where theatre is generally considered to be struggling, that this play has captured the imagination of the Lincoln public and three weeks before we open it has already sold out.”

“We have an extremely talented cast that will make audiences both laugh and cry and the roles are so well written that women of all ages can relate to these characters.”

The production company are also bringing The Phantom of the Opera to Lincoln Drill Hall between October 31 and November 3 this year. The musical will be performed entirely by students aged 15 – 19.
