Railway incident: A man has been struck and killed by a train in the Saxilby area near Lincoln.

A man has been struck and killed by a train in the Saxilby area near Lincoln.

The track worker has been struck by a train near Sykes Lane, about half a mile from the Lincoln side of Saxilby station.

He was a contractor working on behalf of Network Rail. He was 26 and from Doncaster.

— Later update: He has been named locally as Scott Dobson.

The incident was reported to British Transport Police at 1.55pm on Tuesday and the train involved was the 11:19 Scunthorpe to Lincoln service.

The ambulance service is on scene and has confirmed that a man has died.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has been informed and enquiries continue.

Trains from Lincoln to Gainsborough and Doncaster are being replaced by buses until further notice.
