The Lincolnite 3.0 – What’s new

Brand new: Today The Lincolnite has made another leap forward, with a new look ahead of 2013.

Today The Lincolnite has made another leap forward, with a new look ahead of 2013.

Our previous website served us well, but now we have more than 80,000 local readers every month, so it’s time for a bigger and more robust presence, where we can incorporate feedback and everything we have learnt since we started in 2010.

So here it is: The Lincolnite 3.0. A fully responsive website that adapts to computer, tablet and smartphone screens for the best reading experience. It is rebuilt from the ground up to be fast, easy to read and navigate, with a lot of changes under the hood, plus a shiny new look.

On your computer or laptop, you will notice larger, clearer and more defined typography that is even easier on the eye. Photos make a bigger splash now, and we have made it easier to find your favourite stories across our sections.

We have redesigned the front page so that it acts as a timeline of the city. At the top there’s the Twitter ticker, so you don’t miss any of our breaking news and traffic updates. You also get the latest weather information at the top, along with a detailed five-day forecast.

The carousel is where you will find recent top stories and big story highlights from throughout the week. The timeline below is where you will find our latest news stories, galleries and columns, with the newest ones at the top. You can now also easily see which stories create conversations, with comment counts next to the story.

We know a lot of you keep up with the news on the move. Whether you have an iPhone, Android or Windows phone, when you go to thelincolnite.co.uk you’ll see all the stories and images specially formatted for your phone, with bigger text and no need to zoom around the page to navigate. iPad and other tablet users get an optimised look too. Stories are formatted with larger text and full bleed photos, and we are now uploading even higher resolution photos, so they will shine on Retina displays.

There’s more — the redesigned Job Board makes it easier to check and apply for the latest local vacancies in Lincoln and surrounding areas, with clearer job information and search tools. The Lincolnite is now also an effective recruiting tool for local employers, with an easy and affordable way to advertise local job listings to more than 30,000 people who check our Job Board every month.

Bustling Lincoln gets a new What’s On from our revamped events listings too. The new Events page is where you will find the most interesting events in the city, from conferences to markets, shows and gigs. It’s now easier to see what is coming up, find the venue on a map and buy tickets to shows. For event organisers and marketers, we’ve also made it very simple to promote their events to the wider public as well as the business community.

The Lincolnite 3.0 has been developed over the past three months with the help of the code and design wizards at Laser Red, alongside our team.

We will continue tweaking the new page in the coming days, so we’re keen to hear your feedback and comments on our new look website.
