Local firm breaks record for Hemswell Cliff to Lincolnshire Showground Wi-Fi network

Super Wi-Fi: A local firm has broken a Wi-Fi record by delivering a 40MB unbroken (wireless) signal to the Lincolnshire Showground, for an event it was hosting for Apple.

Local firm Linpop Broadband has broken a Wi-Fi record by delivering a 40MB unbroken (wireless) signal to the Lincolnshire Showground, for an event it was hosting for Apple.

The company put up a 45ft mast at the Epic Centre to receive the wireless signal through the air from its mast based at Hemswell Cliff, some 8 miles away.

Chris Lowe, Chief Executive at Linpop Broadband, said: “Apple wanted to host an event to demonstrate the capability of its educational packages to schools and colleges all over the East Midlands.

“But without the right wireless access it would have been impossible for Apple to do a demo of its software, and the event would have been moved to Nottingham.

“In fact the connectivity was so quick, that the event organisers said it was the quickest Wi-Fi speed they’d ever seen at any event across the UK.

“The trick is getting the mast high enough to receive an unbroken signal from Linpop Broadband’s mast based at Hemswell Cliff. It was difficult getting it around RAF Scampton – but we managed it and delivered once again,” he added.

Niki Shepheard, Business Development Manager at the Lincolnshire Showground, said: “Linpop Broadband stepped in quite late in the day to provide the additional connectivity that Apple needed. And because this was the first event we were hosting for Apple, it was imperative that we worked with a professional and reliable organisation.”
