New bike hire scheme coming to Lincoln

Boris bikes, but orange: A new bike hire scheme with stands across the LN6 and central areas of Lincoln will be introduced from July.

A new bike hire scheme with stands across the LN6 and central areas of Lincoln will be introduced from July.

The scheme called HireBike will be run by Lincolnshire County Council as part of the £6.5 million Access LN6 project to improve sustainable transport in the city.

40 bikes will be available to hire from eight locations in the city including Lincoln and Hykeham train stations, Brayford Pool and the LN6 business parks including Teal Park.

Bikes can be hired throughout the day. They will be free for 30 minutes and then £1 per hour. However, the price will be capped at £4.00 for the whole day.

Three of the eight hirebike stations will be introduced in LN6 in July with all stations estimated to be completed by the end of August 2013.

People will be able to join the scheme online later this summer, or through a phone number displayed on the stations.

At the Lincolnshire Show on June 20, Tim Caswell from Access LN6 talked about the new bikes that will be made available in Lincoln.

Councillor Richard Davies, executive councillor for highways and transportation, said:

“We’re really proud to be launching HireBike, the first bike hire scheme in Lincolnshire, and we’re confident that it will provide more opportunities for people to cycle to work, into town or for leisure.”
