Lincoln students enjoy first formal Diwali celebration

The festival of lights: The University of Lincoln hosted their first formal Diwali celebrations on November 4.

The University of Lincoln hosted their first formal evening of traditional Diwali celebrations on Monday, November 4 from the Brayford campus Atrium.

In association with the Student Union and the International Office, the night featured traditional dancing, a music set from DJ Kris Vadher and a selection of Indian food, provided with the help of the Atrium catering staff.

Attending the celebrations was Mayor of Lincoln Councillor Patrick Vaughan, who joined in with the dancing.

Student Puja Chatarah, working on behalf of the International Office, coordinated and scripted the project: “We had a very short time to prepare for the show.”

“The turn-out was excellent. All of the feedback was extremely positive and all enjoyed celebrating a unique common entity.

“It was great to see students so keen to share the news with their parents. People for all different backgrounds came together to celebrate the sacred festival.”
