Lincoln pie shop features in Channel 4 series

Perfect pies? A pie shop and restaurant in Lincoln appeared in a new Channel 4 series tackling stigmas associated with online reviews.

Keen reviewers and restaurant goers in Lincoln perhaps already have a perception of Steep Hill’s Browns Pie Shop & Restaurant, but how does it fare?

As part of a new Channel 4 series delving into the world of online reviews, the Lincoln pie shop met presenter Ruth Watson as she took on a series of negative reviews for the show Ruth Watson Means Business.

Owners Allen and Chris Gill have been running Browns for seven years, and welcome tourists and regulars daily.

While the restaurant receives many positive online reviews, negative reviews have left the question of whether the business is bungling or if comments are unfair.

Episode 3 of the Channel 4 series sees previous reviewers to return to the pie shop and voice their niggles.

Prior to the recommendations made by Ruth, restaurant owner Chris Gill said: “I’m the sort of person that will have a sleepless night over bad reviews. We really do care here about what we do.”

Since the show was filmed in summer 2013, the restaurant has seen many changes.

“We will definitely be starting to respond to comments online and giving a thought to constructive criticism. Now that I’ve got my head out of the sand, I am going to face it.

“I do think also that the right to reply is a good one. When it’s something you care about, criticism can really hurt.”

You can catch Ruth Watson Means Business, featuring Browns Pie Shop & Restaurant, on Channel 4OD for a limited time here.
