Break in and fire at Lincoln mosque site

Commercial burglary: Offenders caused a fire at the former Boultham dairy site during a break in at the weekend.

Lincolnshire Police are appealing for information after a break in and small fire at the former Boultham dairy site, where work is underway to build a supermarket, housing and where a mosque will be built.

At around 10pm on Sunday, January 12, offenders gained entry to the site on Boultham Park Road, near the junction with Dixon Street.

Once on site, they attempted to get into to a steel storage container, causing a small fire on the premises.

Police clarified the incident is not believed to be related to the anti-mosque protest planned for Saturday in Lincoln.

Lincolnshire Police spokesman James Newall said: “We can confirm that this was an attempted commercial burglary, and if anyone saw any suspicious activity in the area or have any information, please contact us as soon as possible.”

A new Lidl supermarket is being built on site, and the Lincoln Islamic Society are still looking to complete their fundraising to build the mosque on the site.

To report anyone acting suspiciously in the area contact Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting crime number 32140001484, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
