A 31-year-old man has been charged with the robbery of a Lincoln Co-op shop and possession of an offensive weapon.

Lincolnshire Police charged Jim Alexander Heggie (31) of St Catherine’s in Lincoln on February 12.

He was arrested on February 11 within 10 minutes of officers attending a call of a robbery in progress at the Lincolnshire Co-operative store on Queen Elizabeth Road.

He appeared in court on Thursday morning and was remanded in police custody until his next court hearing at the end of the month.

As previously reported, at around 8.40pm people inside the shop alerted police that store staff were being threatened with a knife.

Lincolnshire Police officers thanked staff and customers at the store for contacting the police so quickly while the incident was in progress.
