Lincoln Race for Life now open for entries

Showing cancer who’s boss: Lincoln’s Race for Life 2014 event is now open for entries.

Women in Lincoln looking to raise money for Cancer Research can now sign up to the Race for Life 2014.

This year’s Lincoln event will take place on Sunday, June 8 and organisers want at least 2,600 women and girls to take part and raise £140,000.

Held at the Lincolnshire Showground, Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life annually raises money to help fight the condition by encouraging women of all ages, shapes and sizes to run or walk the 5k or 10k route.

The event aims to say “cancer, we’re coming to get you”. According to figures, around four people are diagnosed with cancer in Lincolnshire daily.

Laura Taylor, Cancer Research UK’s Lincoln Events Manager, said: “We’re calling on Lincoln’s mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.

“We know how committed Lincoln women can be when they really make up their minds to do something.

“We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for life-saving research.

“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast.

“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.”

Money raised at Race for Life events goes towards Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research in order to save lives of men, women and children.

Laura added: “Race for Life is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease.

“There are over 200 cancers and we won’t give up until we find cures for them all.”
