Lincoln parade for Jade: Paralympic hero to go on city bus tour

Jade Etherington: To celebrate her return from the Sochi Winter Paralympics, a special parade and bus tour will take place in Lincoln.

To celebrate the return of Lincoln’s Paralympic hero Jade Etherington, a special open top bus tour will make its way through the city and people will have the opportunity to meet her.

Schools and communities in Lincoln will get to see Jade on a 16 mile open top bus tour across the Lincoln on Friday, April 4.

Jade Etherington became the most successful GB Winter Paralympian in history when she achieved three silver medals and one bronze medal at the Sochi Winter Paralympics.

Jade, who is a visually impaired ski racer, currently lives in Lincoln and studied at Bishop Grosseteste University. She is originally from Bourne in the south of the county.

The city sightseeing bus service Tour Lincoln, which is operated by Stagecoach and Lincoln BIG, is being used for the celebration.

The tour will set off from Lincolnshire Sport on Crofton Road at 10.15am and make its way around Lincoln passing the following destinations:

  • Monks Abbey Primary School
  • Lincoln College
  • Bishop King’s School
  • Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue
  • Sainsbury’s
  • St Faith and St Martin School
  • Lincolnshire County Council
  • Lincolnshire Police HQ
  • City of Lincoln Council
  • Lincoln Cathedral (30 minute stop)
  • Westgate School
  • Eastgate School
  • Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School
  • Bishop Grosseteste University (30 minute stop)
  • Lincoln Castle Academy/Active Nation
  • Lincoln Minister School
  • Brayford Pool Waterfront

The tour will conclude at the DoubleTree Hilton at approximately 1.30pm.

Jade is one of Lincolnshire Sport’s LEAP athletes. The LEAP programme, ran by Lincolnshire Sport in conjunction with Lincolnshire County Council, provides funding and support for Lincolnshire’s upcoming elite athletes and has supported Jade for three years.
