Date to watch: The Lincoln Tank Memorial Group has set the date for the unveiling of their Tritton Road roundabout Tank monument at May 10, 2015.

The Lincoln Tank Memorial Group has set the date for the unveiling of their Tritton Road roundabout Tank monument at May 10, 2015.

Although the group need to raise further funds to meet the £60,000 required to complete the project, work has begun to plan the manufacturing and elements of the memorial.

The unveiling will fall one hundred years after William Foster & Co Ltd were in the early stages of their work with the Landship Committee, which led to the first tank prototype later in the year, codenamed a “Water Tank for Mesopotamia”.

Joe Cooke, MBE Chairman of the Lincoln Tank Memorial Group, said: “We are delighted that we are now in a position to finalise the date of the unveiling, we do still have some money to raise but are confident that with the continued support of businesses and individuals our fundraising target will be met.

“I would like to thank everyone who has already supported us and urge others to get involved.

“This Memorial will be a landmark for years to come and will bring visitors to the City.

“We have received messages of support from all over the world and many have said they will make a special trip to see the Memorial when it is unveiled.’

The designs for the memorial tank were revealed in May 2014, with reproduced figures of Tritton, Wilson and Rigby examining plans for the war machine, plus a member of the Tank Corp working on the tank.
