Lincoln hirebike scheme extends to Burton Waters

More stations: It’s now easier to travel from Burton Waters to Lincoln by bike with the introduction of hirebike stations at the village.

The popular Lincoln hirebike scheme has been extended with two new stations at Burton Waters.

Burton Waters is the twelfth area you can rent one of the orange bikes from, meaning there are now 13 stations around Lincoln.

The new stations are based outside the Woodcocks pub and on the roundabout, near the local shops.

Since its launch in August 2013, 1,200 people have signed up to hirebike and nearly 2,000 bikes have been rented.

Councillor Stuart Kinch from Lincolnshire County Council said: “It’s great to install more hirebike stations across Lincoln, and we’re delighted that more people are choosing to use the hirebikes.

“For residents of Burton Waters, the cycle path into Lincoln city centre is a great asset – we hope that local residents will be encouraged to rent a hirebike for leisure, or perhaps consider commuting to and from work by bike.”

Additionally, Beal Homes will advertise on all 50 hirebikes for the next three months. The company also financed one of the docking stations for the scheme.

Richard Costall, Director at Beal Homes, said: “Having the hirebikes here adds another great new facility, which will make it easier for residents, and visitors alike, to explore the countryside or to cycle into Lincoln for work, to eat or shop. Beal Homes is delighted to be involved in the project.”

To rent a hirebike for a couple of hours or the full day, you need to be a member of the scheme, which you can sign up to online or over the phone on 01522 370143.

Once registered, the bikes are free for the first 30 minutes of every rental, then £1 per hour. It is capped at £4 for a full-day rental.
