Steampunk festival returns to uphill Lincoln

Steampunk fantasy weekend: The sixth Lincoln Steampunk festival, known as The Asylum, will be returning to the city this weekend.

The sixth Lincoln Steampunk festival, known as The Asylum, will be returning to the city on September 12-14.

The United Kingdom Steampunk Convivial will host its festival at The Assembly Rooms on Bailgate, Lincoln Castle, Bishop Grosseteste University and Westgate Academy.

The event, one of the biggest in Europe, sees thousands of steampunks visit the city each year, dressing up their Victorian-inspired outfits with brass goggles and other eye-catching, futuristic accessories.

Lincoln BIG Events & Promotions Manager Michael Armstrong said: “This is an important occasion in our events calendar and one which brings thousands of extra people into the city.

“The programme for the weekend is bursting at the seams with all manner of arts, literature, music, fashion and comedy events, all with a unique twist.”

Co-organiser Karen Grover added: “Last year we sold 1,800 tickets for events and we have already topped 2,000.

“What makes Lincoln so attractive is the general ambience of the uphill area and the friendliness of the people.”

The festival programme includes a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, fashion gala, gigs, a biscuit dunking challenge, races, a costume parade and plenty more activities.

Meanwhile, from 10am until 5pm on the Saturday and 10am util 4pm on Sunday there will be an open air Market in Castle Hill, offering shoppers a range of stalls.
