Proposals to close a section of Lincoln High Street to traffic, creating a new pedestrian only zone, will go on public display next week.
On completion of the East West Link road in 2016, the section of the High Street between Tentercroft Street and St Mary’s Street will be closed to traffic, except for service vehicles during off-peak times.
During the day it will effectively be a pedestrianized zone, similar to the High Street to the north of St Mary’s Street. A footbridge over the level crossing will link the two pedestrianised areas, as well as the underground crossing under St Mary’s Street.

The council is presently developing proposals to improve the area through a high quality hard landscaping scheme. This would include paving, seating, possibly planting and other features.
People can share their view on the plans by attending an event on Tuesday, February 3 from 4.30pm until 6.30pm at Think Tank on Ruston Way in Lincoln.

A Lincoln resident is frustrated with vehicles parking on single yellow lines on Lincoln High Street, while the county council says the current regulation order means it’s unable to enforce the area properly, despite signage saying cars cannot park there.
Richard Bridgen has been living off Riverside Drive in Lincoln for around five years now, and over recent months he has noticed a particular trend around parking on a section of the High Street, which can impede his view as he tries to turn from Gaunt Street.
