Councillors on the City of Lincoln Council’s planning committee have refused an application to demolish the Monson Arms pub in Lincoln and put a care home in its place.
As previously reported, the pub site on Skellingthorpe Road was earmarked by developers for a 54-bed care home after it was deemed “economically unviable”.

However this was disputed by many local residents and users of the pub, including sports groups and other organisations.
Local customers and landlady Tracie Pickard set up a campaign against the proposals with a Facebook page and online petition.
A recommendation for refusal was made in the planning manager’s report, due to the pub’s value in the community.
An agreement was reached to not accept the application on Wednesday, June 24.
