Firefighters tackle major waste fire near Sleaford

Large fire: Emergency services are dealing with a large fire in Ancaster near Sleaford, which has engulfed around 400 bales of household waste.

Emergency services are dealing with a large fire in Ancaster near Sleaford, which has engulfed around 4,000 bales of household waste.

Some 12 fire appliances were called out at around 1.57am to the blaze at the Mid UK Recycling Ltd site on High Dyke.

Approximately 100 x 100 metres of stacked bailed rubbish and carpets have been well alight into the morning and firefighters are still on scene at the time of writing.

Police, fire and ambulance responders were at the scene and police toured the area advising residents to keep their windows closed as there was thick black smoke coming from the fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. There are no injuries.

A number of roads around the area have been closed while firefighters tackle the fire.
