Fire crews called out after overnight rain causes flooding to Lincoln flats

Flash flooding: Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue had to pump water out of four flats on a busy Lincoln road after heavy overnight rain.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue had to pump water out of four flats on a busy Lincoln road after heavy overnight rain.

A crew from Lincoln South Fire Station was called to the flats on Newark Road at about 1.45am in the early hours of the morning.

A light pump and strainer were used to pump the flood water from the flats.

The unusually heavy downpours also caught out a motorist in Potterhanworth minutes earlier, whose car got stuck in water under a railway bridge in the village.

Fire crews managed to tow the car away and the driver was not injured.

A yellow warning for heavy rain issued by the Met Office remains in place until just before midnight tonight.

There is a risk of intense thundery downpours during the late afternoon and evening and people should be aware of the possibility of localised disruption due to surface water flooding.
