Canwick Road work extended to fix Lincoln broadband issues

Broadband work: Restrictions on Canwick Road in Lincoln will continue for at least two more days as BT Openreach carry out further work to fix Broadband issues in a Lincoln village.

Restrictions on Canwick Road in Lincoln will continue for at least two more days as BT Openreach carry out further work to fix broadband issues in a Lincoln village.

One lane of Canwick Road was closed overnight across the weekend to allow work to replace a 750 metre length of 1400 line cable, which was installed in 1957.

More than 100 properties were said to have been affected by faulty cabling, which supplies phone and broadband services.

After two night of work BT Openrach said progress has been slow, and at least two more nights of restrictions are needed.

A company spokesperson said: “The manholes and ducts have been full of compacted silt, with rocks and stone from old roadworks thrown in.

“Then we have had to pull out very large heavy old disused cables, to get a spare duct.

“Due to this it has taken longer than anticipated, to get a clean empty duct to put the new cable in.

“We have got one 450 metre cable in the ground, but we have to resume tonight to get the other 320Metre cable in the ground.”

Restrictions will be in place on Monday and Tuesday, September 28 – 29 between 7pm and 6am Tuesday 29.

The company also warns that work may be extended further to Wednesday night.
