Lincoln baron to graduate with university students

Graduate baron: Thousands of University of Lincoln students will be joined by their mascot baron at ceremonies this week.

As thousands of University of Lincoln graduands prepare to don their caps and gowns this week, their mascot baron will move from its Waterside spot to bow out with them.

Students will receive their degrees at Lincoln Cathedral ceremonies between Tuesday, September 8 and Friday, September 11.

The Graduate Baron, designed by Rosie Ablewhite and sponsored by the university, is one of 25 baron sculptures which formed a trail for the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta.

The trail finishes on September 13; after which they will be brought together at Lincoln Castle between September 24 and 29, before being auctioned off for charity.

The university’s baron will be moved to the front of the cathedral to join those celebrating their achievements until the final day of the trail.

A Lincoln Barons’ Charter Trail spokesperson said: “If you’re a graduate, this is a great opportunity to have your photo taken with the baron wearing matching mortarboard and colours.

“If not, join with The Graduate Baron to congratulate Lincoln’s graduates and take his photo with the iconic cathedral just behind.

“Don’t forget to share your photos online using the hashtag #LincolnBarons.”
