Welcome to the all-new The Lincolnite

New website: Take a look through the host of new changes and features introduced on the all-new The Lincolnite website, which has launched today.

We’re proud today to launch a brand new look and lots of new functionality for The Lincolnite, Lincoln’s favourite news website. It’s familiar — we kept and improved all the elements you told us you love, and yet it’s all new — we’ve introduced a fresh look across the website and added a raft of new features.

It wasn’t an easy feat or a quick job. Over the past seven months we have rebuilt The Lincolnite experience from the ground up in order to make it leaner and faster. Our web development partners Laser Red and hosting partners Jolt, also two local companies, have helped us make this possible.

We’ve redesigned the reading experience on smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers — it’s more fluid and takes advantage of every pixel on your screen. Whatever device you are using, The Lincolnite looks great, with bold imagery and typography.

Here are some of the new things to look out for:

Day/evening/night reading modes

You can now pick whether you’d like a crisp white reading experience during the day, a softer background for evening reading, or a dark grey night reading mode. Just go to the Menu and select View Options. You can also make the text larger so it’s easier on your eyes, or smaller, to fit more on the screen.

See what’s popular

The new Top Stories module on the front page shows you a tailored mix of the most read stories of the day, plus the stories that got people talking and sharing. By default you will always see the latest news stories, and you can always click to see the popular stories.

Commenting and sharing

We have introduced a new look for the comments section, which now gets its fair share of screen real estate. You can now quickly access the revamped comments and sharing sections as you scroll down through a story.

Full screen photo galleries

You can now enjoy our beautiful and striking photography in full screen, with high resolution imagery. You just use the arrows on your computer or swipe on your phone. Also by popular request, you can now pinch and zoom on mobile pages to see the full picture.

Easy story navigation

At the end of each story, you can stay in the news timeline and simply go back and forth through the day’s stories, without having to go back to the front page.

What it says on the tin. Just click this arrow and you go back to the top of the page. Simple, yet so reassuringly effective. Also, don’t forget that on your iPhone or iPad you can always double-tap the top of the screen to scroll to the top.

Jobs, property and what’s on at a glance

We redesigned the way we show you the latest jobs on our popular job board, the latest properties on the market and our what’s on section. You simply swipe or click through the cards, or quickly jump to the fully revamped section pages.

Bigger adverts

The Lincolnite is free to read thanks to our advertising sponsors who promote their products and services through the dedicated slots on our website. We only show you relevant ads from respected local advertisers, and our bigger slots will be able to accommodate more eye-catching designs without getting in your way.

As with every big change, there will be some little bugs which we will work on to squash very quickly. In the same spirit of our previous website iterations, our mission to tweak and improve every aspect of the website continues over the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, we welcome your feedback and thoughts directly to the Managing Editor Daniel Ionescu on [email protected], or in the comments section for this story.
