People near RAF Waddington should expect emergency-style scenes including controlled explosions and smoke systems throughout Tuesday, July 12.

The air base is participating in a major exercise involving multiple civilian agencies.

The main activity will be contained within the RAF base itself, however it is expected that passers by may see a large number of military and civilian emergency service personnel in the area, along with emergency service vehicles on the surrounding roads.

RAF Waddington are aiming to use this controlled exercise to test and prove RAF Waddington’s personnel and their ability to cope, contain and resolve major incidents.

To enable the co-ordinators to replicate a ‘real situation’ smoke systems and/or pyrotechnics could be used.

The training day is expected to finish at 3pm.

People who visit the area are being reassure that there is no cause for concern and RAF Waddington have assured that every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum.
