A 46-year-old Grimsby Town fan has suffered multiple injuries in an unprovoked attack following Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Sheffield United.

Police officers found the victim at around 5.45pm on a grassed area, around 100m from the Suggitts Lane railway crossing.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

The video below shows the clashes between fans after the game. Viewers should be aware of strong language throughout.

The self-employed electrician had attended the match alone, and was taking his regular route home along the sea front, from Fuller Street towards Suggitts Lane, when he was attacked.

This route was taken by numerous people leaving Blundell Park following the match and officers investigating are keen to speak to anyone with information.

Humberside Police have described the victim as “very slim” and he was wearing a distinctive anorak-style jacket and blue jeans when he was attacked.

Witnesses are asked to call 101, quoting log 212 of July 23.

The family of the victim has asked that he is not named.

As previously reported, six people have been arrested in connection with a fight that broke out at the match.

Two police officers were hurt in the clashes, with one sustaining a head injury and possibly a fractured ankle after bottles were thrown towards him.
