The 2016 Lincoln Mystery Plays will open on August 3, bringing an ancient tradition back to life in the city.

Located in the Cathedral Cloisters, the plays will run for nine performances from Wednesday, August 3, through to Saturday, August 13 – excluding August 4 and 7.

Performances are outdoors and run from 7.30pm until just before 10pm.

The Mystery Plays are performed only once every four years — making this a rare opportunity to catch something special.

This particular set of plays are distinct to the city as the pieces which have been aired locally for centuries.

A spokesperson for the plays said: “Following man’s journey from creation through to Doomsday, the plays open up all aspects of humanity, exploring a wide range of emotions and responses which connect deeply with our lives today.

“Noah is back on board within this year’s selection of scenes with a highly amusing sketch enlivened by children. Further charms include a baby within the cast for the first time in decades.”

For 2016 the historic plays will be presented with fresh dynamism whilst respecting their legacy and heritage.

Tickets (priced £13, £15 and £49 for a family of four) can be bought on the website and from the Lincoln Cathedral Shop on 01522 561644.
