New signs warning people against fly-tipping have been put up by North Kesteven District Council.

The council has introduced signs stating ‘Warning. People have been successfully prosecuted for fly-tipping in this area’ where illegal dumpers have been caught leaving their waste.

The authority has taken a tough stance on fly-tipping in recent years, resulting in far more prosecutions than any other council in Lincolnshire.

More than 80% of all fly-tipping prosecutions in the county over the last three years have been carried out by North Kesteven District Council, even though it has only around 12% of the total incidents in its borders.

Figures have shown the council pursued 34 cases through the courts; collectively all six other authorities took only 11 cases forward.

Councillor Richard Wright, Executive Board Member with responsibility for enforcement, said: “North Kesteven is a beautiful district and this shouldn’t be spoilt by a mindless few.

Not only is fly-tipping an eyesore, but it costs the taxpayer money for investigation and removal. This could be spent on one of the many other services the council has to provide for its residents.

“The message is simple: we will not tolerate fly-tipping and will carry out robust investigations and prosecutions against the perpetrators.”

Fly-tipping can be reported on North Kesteven District Council’s website or by calling 01529 414155.
