Father and son racers have raised more than £6,000 for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

Chris Clarkson and his father, Peter, donated £6,542.12 to the charity on August 8, which was raised through sponsorship of a cross-Europe car rally the duo took part in.

The father and son duo took part in the Bust Banger Rally to raise money and awareness for the charity that airlifted Chris’ son, Daniel, 12 years ago.

The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance airlifted Chris’ son, Daniel, to Bassetlaw Hospital in 2004 when Daniel was just two.

Daniel had been kicked in the face by a horse on the family form. His left eye socket was severely broken and his cheekbone cracked.

The July race, which started in Saint-Quentin, France and ended three days later in Monte Carlo, had to be driven in a car purchased for no more than £300.

Chris and his father found their sub-£300 wheels and customised it with charity logos and a scaled down model of the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance emblem on top.

Chris said: “We’ve so far raised over £12,000 for the charity service that airlifted my son when he was in need.

“Next year we’ll be doing another rally and we will always put money in a donation bucket for them.

“It’s an amazing service that saves and helps so many lives.”

Karen Jobling, CEO of Lincolnshire and Nottingham Air Ambulance said: “The Clarkson family are incredible supporters of our charity.

“We’re so glad our crew could help Daniel on that fateful day in 2004 and we’re overwhelmed with the family’s generosity ever since.”
