A Lincolnshire police constable is set to face allegations of gross misconduct after he was convicted of stealing a kayak and flogging it on eBay.

Constable 688 Andrew Hamilton was convicted of two counts of theft after taking a a kayak and set of paddles from the Nottingham Kayak Club.

The theft happened sometime between the start of May and July 9 this year.

Constable Hamilton then sold the items on eBay, keeping the profits he made from the sale.

At Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on August 8, Hamilton was convicted.

Now Lincolnshire Police will determine whether to take any additional action.

A statement from the force said: “The conduct, if proved, amounts to gross misconduct as it was an act of dishonesty and a criminal offence, and seriously damages the reputation of Lincolnshire Police.”

Chief Constable Neil Rhodes will chair the public hearing, taking place at Lincolnshire Police Headquarters on Wednesday, August 24, from 1.30pm.
