Co-op will bring in a pop-up shop after a tractor ploughed through their Donington store this morning.

As previously reported, bungling thieves left the Donington Co-op store in ruins after  trying to remove an ATM machine from the building with a tractor.

The failed theft attempt happened at around 3.20am on Thursday, September 29, at the Co-op store on Donington Market Place.

The Co-op pop-up shop is expected on site from Friday, September 30 and aims to continue to serve the community with a range of over 120 everyday essentials.

It will be located in the car park of the neighbouring Black Bull pub.

Pop-up shops are typically used where the Co-op is refitting a store, however they were also used earlier this year to maintain a service for flood affected communities.

Simon Taylor, Area Manager for the Co-op, said: “There was an attempted ATM theft at our Market Place, Donington, store in the early hours of this morning.

“Extensive damage was caused to the front of the store, and it is too early to say when it will re-open.

“CCTV coverage has been shared with police, who are investigating, and we would appeal for anyone for information to come forward.

“A Co-op pop-up shop is expected on site from tomorrow, Friday, September 30, to continue to serve the community with a range of over 120 everyday essentials.”
