Grimsby children taken to hospital after eating cookies allegedly given to them by woman

Three children were taken to hospital after eating cookies allegedly given to them by a stranger, with a woman released on bail in relation to the incident.

The children, two girls aged 13 and 15 and a 13-year-old boy, became ill after eating the biscuits and were taken to the Diana, Princes of Wales Hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that they were given the cookies by a woman on Freeman Street in Grimsby on the evening of Saturday, October 8.

The children were later discharged having been given a clean bill of health.

A 60-year-old woman has been arrested and questioned in relation to the matter.

She has been released on police bail until early November.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicki Miller said: “We responded to this report really quickly and were able to identify a woman we wanted to speak to in relation to the allegations and she has been arrested, questioned and released on police bail whilst further enquiries are undertaken.

This is a good opportunity to remind children and young people not to talk to strangers and never to accept gifts from them.

“It is too early to say exactly what has happened here but it should serve as a timely reminder to people and I would encourage parents to remind their children that they should not talk to people they don’t know and if they are approached by someone who they are unsure about they should alert their parents who in turn should contact the police if there are genuine concerns about them.”
