A recent study by the University of East London has shown that North Kesteven has the highest rates of schizophrenia in England.

North Kesteven was seen to have the highest rates of prescriptions for medication for schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses in England.

Results showed that 39 in every 1,000 people in North Kesteven received prescriptions for schizophrenia between October 2015 and September 2016.

The analysis, taken by the University of East London, found ‘hotspots’ for psychotic illness around England, developed using anonymous prescription records.

These prescriptions were collected from doctors’ surgeries across the country, only recording prescriptions given out, and not the number of patients treated.

Highest rates of schizophrenia in England:

  • North Kesteven, 39 in every 1,000 people
  • Coventry, 35 in every 1,000 people
  • Rochdale, 34 in every 1,000 people
  • Cambridge, 34 in every 1,000 people
  • Hastings, 33 in every 1,000 people

Lowest rates of schizophrenia in England:

  • East Dorset, nine in every 1,000 people
  • South Gloucestershire, 10 in every 1,000 people
  • Tewkesbury, 10 in every 1,000 people
  • York, 10 in every 1,000 people
  • Epsom and Ewell, 11 in every 1,000 people

Lincolnshire West Clinical Commissioning Group and the Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust were both invited by Lincolnshire Reporter to respond to the figures.

However, neither had provided a statement at the time of publication.
