Structural works have begun on the site of the new state-of-the-art Lincoln bus station, with the first steel frame lowered into place.

The new station will form part of the city’s £30 million Transport Hub which will also include a 1,000 space multi-storey car park and a pedestrian plaza to connect it to the train station and the city centre.

Kate Ellis and Maria Clayton from City of Lincoln Council and Adrian Coleman from Wilmott Dixon affix the bus station’s first steel column to the floor.

The new bus station is expected to be open by December 2017, with the full Transport Hub scheme complete by February 2018.

Kate Ellis and Maria Clayton from City of Lincoln Council and Adrian Coleman from Wilmott Dixon affix the bus station’s first steel column to the floor.

Led by City of Lincoln Council, the transport hub is being delivered in partnership with the Department for Transport, the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP), Lincolnshire Co-op and Network Rail, working with East Midlands Trains and Lincolnshire County Council.

Kate Ellis, Strategic Director of Major Developments at City of Lincoln Council, said: “The project is on schedule and progressing incredibly well. The steelwork started today will be completed in May and then the remainder of the structure will emerge.”

“The much anticipated Transport Hub is now starting to come alive and will be the jewel in the crown for this part of the city. It has already been the catalyst for much growth in Lincoln as a whole and is contributing to a very exciting time for the city.”

Steel frames have been erected on the site of the new Lincoln bus station.

Work is also continuing on the new 1,000 space car park in place of the former city bus station.
