Labour selects candidate for district council by-election

The Labour Party has announced its candidate for the Scotter and Blyton by-election on West Lindsey District Council which will take place next month.

Freelance editor and writer Jon Harper will be the party’s candidate for the by-election on Thursday, July 27, triggered by the resignation of Conservative councillor Adam Duguid one week before the general election.

Jon, who has lived in Scotter with his family for the last 20 years, said: “Scotter and Blyton faces a variety of complex challenges, from speeding traffic and unsafe roads to anti-social behaviour, unsustainable development and rural businesses being left behind.

“I will bring a different approach to these problems and will champion solutions which work for the whole community, not just for some.

“I look forward to meeting as many people as possible over the next few weeks and hearing their concerns.

“If elected, I will work constructively with our other councillors to ensure that this community has a voice.”

Ian Bradley, vice chair of the Gainsborough Constituency Labour Party, said: “Jon is an excellent candidate for this district council seat.

“He is a community champion, already widely involved in voluntary work in and around Scotter and he will bring a wealth of life experience, business experience and compassion to this role.

“Driven by his staunch Labour values of fairness and equality, I know Jon will stand up for the real needs of local people, and will be the voice of change the ward badly needs.”
