A man has been charged with theft following an attempted handbag snatch on Lincoln High Street.
Tony Benge, 31, from the Monks Road area of Lincoln, has been charged with theft from a person and will appear before Lincoln Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 3.
As reported previously, eyewitnesses described how a suspect had been chased down the street by two good samaritans following the incident at around 10.45am on Tuesday, July 18.
A man had grabbed a woman’s handbag outside of the Pandora shop and had been seen running in the direction of St Mary Le Wigford Church.
It was reported that two men grabbed the thief and pinned him to the ground while waiting for police to arrive.
The woman was reunited with her bag.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas — but not as much in Lincoln — tainted by the absence of the country’s oldest festive market, which was cancelled over safety concerns. Yes, this means that the 2023 Lincolnshire Christmas Market will not take place from Thursday.
With tens of thousands of people googling Christmas markets, it is unsurprising to see a flurry of stories in the nationals about City of Lincoln Council’s decision to cancel the 40-year-old event, which attracted more than 350,000 people in four days last year, and reportedly generated around £15 million for the local economy.
