A brave member of the public detained a man carrying a gun in Scunthorpe.

Humberside Police received reports of a man with a gun on East Common Lane at 5.20pm on Friday, July 21.

A member of the public disarmed the man, detained him and phoned the police.

Officers subsequently arrested Ian Crellin, 54, and of Wharfedale Place, on suspicion of firearms offences.

Crellin was taken into custody and charged with criminal damage at the police station in Scunthorpe, possession of cannabis, assault on a police officer, and aggravated burglary at a car sales company on Grange Lane in the town.

He has appeared at Scunthorpe Magistrates’ Court charged with these offences.
