A stolen car that was involved in a fatal collision in the Peterborough area is being linked to an attempted ATM theft in Lincolnshire moments earlier, police have confirmed.

A 51-year-old man, named as Mark Collin from Whittlesey, died at the scene when his vehicle was involved in a crash with a black Audi S3 on the B1040 at around 4.20am on August 1.

One man was arrested and two fled from the scene.

Police now believe that the Audi was also used in a botched ram raid at the Lincolnshire Co-op store on West Street in Crowland just 20 minutes earlier.

As reported previously, three people were thought to have been involved when offenders used a pick-up-truck to rip the ATM from the wall. They failed to make off with the machine.

Cambridgeshire Police arrested a 30-year-old man from the Peterborough area, the driver of the Audi, stolen from Northamptonshire. He was released under investigation for the dangerous driving offence.

However he has since been re-arrested for breaching his prison license and recalled to prison.

The two people who we believe left the scene are still wanted.
