Physiotherapist struck off after sexual assault on patient

He has been struck off.

A physiotherapist has been struck off after sexually assaulting a female patient.

Adel Abdel Razeq, who was working as a locum physiotherapist in Holbeach at the time of the incident, inserted one or two fingers into the patients vagina, touched her clitoris, and asked her if she used sex toys.

Razeq was found by the panel to have also used words to the effect of “you drive me crazy” and “well you enjoyed because you were leaking”.

He also did not tell her that she could keep her bra on during the sessions.

The patient was referred to Razeq on March 3, 2014 for treatment for lower back pain following a MRI scan.

On Wednesday, March 19, 2014, she attended her first physiotherapy session, with a subsequent appointment made the following.

The second session was when the allegations which were proved took place.

Shortly after the second appointment on Wednesday, March 26, the patient told her friend what happened.

Police arrested Razeq and he was acquitted of assault by penetration and sexual assault at Lincoln Crown Court in June 2015.

However, a Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service panel found the allegations against him proved.

In the report outlining their findings, the panel said: “The panel was of the view that the public would be horrified to hear of a case where a physiotherapist had breached the trust of a patient seeking treatment, by touching that patient wholly inappropriately and in a sexual manner.

“The panel did not consider that any lesser sanction than a striking off order could be imposed without undermining public confidence in the profession or the HCPC as its regulator.”

The striking off order will apply from September 6.
