Thousands expected at 2017 circus-themed Skegness Carnival

Thousands are expected to attend Skegness Carnival, which this year has a circus theme.

The event will take place on Sunday, August 13 between 10am and 6pm, with a parade at 1pm.

It falls as part of a week long festival of events and activities in the popular holiday town.

During the weekend parade, crowds will walk through Skegness in fancy dress alongside decorated floats and four marching bands.

The carnival parade will kick off a whole week of free events:


Monday, August 14

Monday will see the carnival spend a day at the beach

A pavement artist competition will be held from 10am to 12pm on the north side of the Pier.

There will also be a family treasure hunt taking place at the same time.

In the afternoon there will be a sand sculpting competition on Central Beach (south of the Pier) between 2pm and 4pm.

Tuesday, August 15

Most events will take place at Tower Gardens on the Tuesday.

In the morning there will be a fancy dress competition which starts at 10.30am.

In the afternoon, there will be a baby show sponsored by Nicolas Nursery World. Registration for this is at 1pm.

There are also stalls all day starting from 10am.

Wednesday, August 16

At Tower Gardens, there will be a day dedicated to the emergency services.

The event will see all the services including Police, Fire Service, Ambulance and Coastwatch join forces to put on a display for all to enjoy.

The event runs from 10am to 4pm and throughout the day there will be bouncy castles, stalls, tombolas and the Skegness Carnival BBQ.

One the evening, there will be an Open Mic Night. This will be held at The Suncastle at 7.30pm.

A disco will be held at Grosvenor House Hotel at 7pm.

Thursday, August 17

New this year during the day on Thursday will be beach games for the whole family taking place between 10am – 12pm and 2pm-4pm near the Pier.

There will also be a circus workshop taking place at the Neverland Theatre on Prince George Street

The workshop will starts at 12pm and is free to attend.

Friday, August 18

On the last day of carnival week there will be a pet show in Tower Gardens, starting at 10am.

During the day there will also be displays from dog agility teams.

The finale to the Skegness Carnival week is a quiz night.

The event starts 7.30pm at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
