Over 1k homes without power as Lincolnshire stands up to Storm Aileen battering

Police were also called out last night.

Nearly 1,200 Lincolnshire homes woke up with no power this morning after Storm Aileen bombarded the county with gale-force winds overnight.

The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for the first six hours of Wednesday, September 13, forecasting gusts of up to 75mph.

Lincolnshire it appears emerged roughly unscathed from the storm, with the power cuts the only major incidents reported overnight.

Police were called 25 times overnight, with almost all of them relating to fallen trees.

Many of the calls were duplicates, and there were no injuries or serious damage.

The biggest number of homes without power was concentrated in the PE12 postcode east of Spalding, taking in places such as Holbeach and Sutton Bridge.

A total of 363 houses suffered power cuts in this postcode area.

The NG34 postcode area, especially to the south of Sleaford, also suffered, with 473 homes affected.

Villages which had power cuts in this area included Pickworth, Horbling and Walcot.

North of Sleaford, 236 homes in Ruskington were without power this morning, and a further 33 were affected around the Bracebridge Heath area.

Rounding off the list, 25 homes in Thorpe St Peter and 14 close to the Sutterton roundabout currently have no power.

All power should be restored by midday today at the latest, Western Power Distribution has said.

The weather for the rest of the day will remain windy, but not to the extent it was earlier this morning.
