Self-confessed paedophile arrested after boasting he had sexually abused young girl

He said he had been downloading images since 2013.

A self-confessed paedophile was found to have child porn images on his computer, Lincoln Crown Court was told.

Philip Teale was arrested after boasting that he had been sexually abusing a young girl.

Teale’s claim was proved to be untrue but during the police investigation officers found the child pornography on his computer.

Jonathan Dunn, prosecuting, said: “This case arises out of a visit to him by the police because of a more serious allegation that proved to be untrue.

“He had been boasting that he had abused a young girl but it was an untrue boast.

“The police are quite satisfied that this was bravado.

“He said he was a paedophile and that he had been downloading images since 2013.”

Teale, 39, of The Waterfront, Welham Street, Grantham, admitted making a total of 16 indecent images of a child and a further charge of possession of 10 extreme pornographic images.

He was given a three year community order with a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 30 days.

He was also ordered to complete a sexual offenders’ treatment programme and was given a five year sexual harm prevention order.

Deputy Judge Michael Stokes QC: “You openly stated in interview ‘I am a paedophile therefore I must have a sexual interest in children’.

“Your interview with the police demonstrates quite clearly that you need long-term work to ensure that your interest does not progress beyond what you have shown so far.

“It is in the public interest that the court takes a course which will address these serious issues about which you have been so open.”

Sunil Khanna, in mitigation, said: “This is a very, very low number of images.

“He has been open and frank with everybody and has made attempts to address his difficulties.

“He lives on his own in rented accommodation. He fears he will now lose his job as a result of his conviction.”
