Lincolnshire skier missing in French Alps after ‘one last run’ in snow storm

A Lincolnshire skier on holiday with his family in the French Alps has not been seen after going “for one last run alone” in treacherous heavy snow.

John Bromell, 39, was last seen on the Paquis chairlift in the resort of Tignes at 4.30pm on Sunday, January 7.

Friends and family have been unable to contact him on his mobile phone.

Fears for John’s safety have grown as the weather in the region has deteriorated, with the ski area closed on Monday over concerns of an avalanche caused by high winds and heavy snowfall.

This has impacted the search for John, as helicopters have been grounded and patrols have been struggling to move.

John’s phone and Tignes ski pass could technically be used by the authorities to track down his exact location, but by Monday night this had proved impossible.

In posters appealing for information, John was described as 6ft tall, and last seen wearing a multi-coloured bobble hat and jacket.

He only speaks English.

A spokesman for Tignes gendarmerie said: “The lost man had been skiing all of Sunday with his family and had set off for one last run alone.

“Everything is being done to try and find him.”
