Scunthorpe woman, 92, has purse stolen by man pretending to be council worker

Money and bank cards were stolen.

A 92-year-old woman has allegedly had her purse stolen by a man pretending to be a council official in Scunthorpe.

The lady had put an old sofa outside her house on Leamington Court to be collected.

A man came to her door around 3pm on January 29 claiming he was from the council to collect it.

The woman let the man into her house briefly while she filled out some paperwork.

Later she noticed her purse, which contained money and bank cards, was missing from her handbag.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “The man’s been described as white and slim, and possibly wearing an orange top or jacket.

“If you were in the area at the time and noticed something suspicious or have any information please call 101 quoting log 101 of January 30.”
